INTRODUCTION
To enable you to gain competence in this unit, learners must provide evidence of that
demonstrates that both performance skills and knowledge skills. You will be under the
guidance of a qualified trainer and assessor. The learner must show evidence of the
ability to complete tasks and demonstrate knowledge outlined in the elements and
performance criteria, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job
role.
In assessing evidence, the assessor must ensure that the evidence is:
1. Authentic (your own work)
2. Valid (directly related to the current version of the unit)
3. Reliable (show that the learner consistently meets the current unit)
4. Current (reflects your current capacity to perform the aspect of the work covered in
the unit)
5. Sufficient (covers the full range of elements and addresses the dimensions of task
skills, task management skills, contingency management skills and job role skills)
An individual’s access to the assessment process should not be adversely affected by
restrictions placed on the location or context of assessment beyond the requirements
specified in the training package.
To ensure that you are treated equitably trainers can make reasonable adjustments for
those who require this (people with disability, language or location issues). Adjustments
include any changes in the assessment process or context that meet the individual needs
of the person but do the change the competency outcomes.
Assessment can provide alternative assessment activities to address identified specific
organisation requirements. The assessment process must:
Provide valid, reliable, flexible and fair assessment
Provide for assessment to be made on the basis of sufficient evidence
Offer valid, authentic and current evidence
Include workplace requirements

Assessment activities are part of a formative assessment. Trainers should provide
feedback via email, written information or verbally.

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE
The learner must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and
performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and contingencies and context of job role.
Due to the nature of community service and the role that you would be undertaking, there
may not be the opportunity to undertake all of the aspects of the Performance Evidence
requirements. The following tasks and scenarios are designed to demonstrate this
performance evidence.
Task 1 Communication strategy
Develop and present a new communication strategy and protocols for a business
1. Identify internal and external information needs
a. Use SWOT analysis (Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats)
b. Include stakeholders
2. Identify competing or conflicting interests (competitors)
3. Develop range of strategies to meet needs and goals
4. Develop a Communication Plan
Establish communication protocols
1. Identify processes for adapting communication strategies for different contexts
2. Develop processes and protocols in line with listed strategies
3. Prepare information and resources to support implementation of communication
protocols
Present communication strategies
1. Present to group/staff (minimum 3 people)
2. Model effective oral and written communication
3. Mentor and coach group/staff
4. Maintain work-related networks and relationships
Review
1. Obtain feedback
2. Record lessons learned for continuous improvement
Task 2 Digital Media
Using the information and strategy in Task 1.
Develop a strategy for using digital media to provide information and promote the
organisation
Implement this strategy
Assessment Conditions
Your assessor will set up the environment with equipment and resources. You will have
access to Policies and Procedures of a workplace.
Your assessor will be looking for:
1. Interactions (with people from diverse backgrounds
2. Presentation to at least 3 people
3. Use of presentation media

The learner must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements
and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.
Assessment 1
In your role, you need to understand the legal and ethical considerations with regard to
communication. Complete the following table to demonstrate your knowledge.

1. What is traditional media?
2. List 2 types of digital media and explain etiquette and marketing requirements with
regard to each type of media.
3. How could each of these types of media fit into the communication strategy of a
service or business?
Assessment 4
1. You are working for a service. One of the clients dies in unfortunate circumstances.
Describe how a crisis communication plan will assist in dealing with this situation.
2. Discuss the importance of outlaying funds for communication against return on
investment.
3. Explain how political and social factors affect workplace communications
4. Discuss the importance of technological factors in workplace communication.
